A truck crossing a center lane on the U.S. 60 in Powhatan County, Virginia (VA) was blamed for causing the horrific multiple truck crash that left three people dead on March 26, 2012.
See this video from the Richmond Times Dispatch.
Virginia State Police said a truck hauling sludge on one of the narrower sections of U.S. 60 in Powhatan County crossed the center line and hit a truck carrying logs. The result was a wreck that involved five trucks.
As experienced Virginia trucking accident attorneys who noted this crash soon after it happened, our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the survivors.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that two more trucks carrying timber that were behind the truck that suffered a head-on impact, were also part of the collision just west of Bell Road along with a second westbound sludge truck.
The crash claimed the lives of the drivers of the two trucks that collided as well as a passenger in the first logging truck, the Times-Dispatch reported.
Police said another driver was flown to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries while two others were treated for minor injuries.
This accident illustrates the devastating forces unleashed when big rigs collide. Emergency crews spent hours clearing up a catastrophic scene on the U.S. 60.
What’s still to be determined is whether this early morning accident was caused by a moment of inattention or whether drowsy driving or another factor was involved.
Over the next few weeks investigators will be looking for answers. It seems a wrongful death suit would be a likely outcome from this tragedy.
